Earlier in the year, because all the students were forced to be in home, the state-wide PBS Superstation (OPB) began broadcasting all day their documentaries. I found it very interesting to see a documentary from before the SJW era.

The quote from the documentary was "Had Socretes been alive today, he most likely would be shunned from society. A fringe man, we would hate him."

*Socrates goes to a blacksmith*

Blacksmith: What can I do ya for?

Socrates: I wish to ask you one question, for a quick moment

Blacksmith: Uh... sure. What is it?

Socrates: If I were baking a sweet bread, what would be good to put in it?

Socretes was the wisest man alive. He fufiled the promise of the childhood oracle. He knew he was the wisest man because the only thing he actually knew for certain was that "he knew nothing."

He would wander, talking to person to person, asking them things outside of their knowledge that he learned from others who posess this knowledge in an attempt to prove that knowledge is subject.

@EdwardTorvalds has nothing to do with it.

Continuous speech recognition is an _extremely hard_ problem. Google has been able to sample Google Voice, YouTube and a bunch of other sources to train neural nets against millions of hours of audio to _still_ not be more than 90-something % accurate (watch generated subtitles.)

Continuous speech recognition of the other kind... look up Dragon NaturallySpeaking and similar packages. They suck, require you to speak in a particular way, etc.

@sheogorath you need to look pragmatically. In theory every app you install should be trusted. One small zero day big in snapd or flatpak negates everything

The biggest selling point is easier packing. If you work at corporate you will learn that those people are ready to sacrifice anything to get things done easy. Which is why, for example, the snap packages I installed get whole home directory read and write instead of one folder. etc, etc

>>14

@EdwardTorvalds And about the zero day: Sadly the same is true for rpm and dpkg. A malicious package, is a malicious package, is a malicious package.

But when a library for your calculated got compromised and tries to read your .ssh/ directory and send it off somewhere else, you might be better of with it running in flatpak than with it running installed as .rpm or .dep.
